We couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce you to one of our most proudly handcrafted, sustainable and USA-made workshop partners, Charleston Forge. What started out as a determined two-person endeavor in 1974 has since evolved into a thriving collaboration with incredibly skilled artisans, metal forgers, and wood workers. Everything is made entirely by hand, which is something you really have to see and feel to appreciate fully, and the majority of their materials are sourced within a hundred mile radius of home too, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Boone, North Carolina. Renowned for sturdy steel frames, solid wood, high quality upholstery, and stunning glass work, Charleston Forge crafts the kind of heirloom quality furniture that’s built for living well, and lasting long.

Handmade Every Time, For Every Room

While many other companies incorporate handcrafted touches in their work, Charleston Forge takes their handmade claim to the limit; they have no automation or assembly lines in any of their processes, only a fine-tuned attention to the age-old traditions of blacksmithing and metalworking. You can bet that every piece you receive from them was made by hand, built to order, and expertly crafted to withstand the test of time and use. This level of thoughtful time and well-spent energy means that the pieces they design are equally as specific, purposeful, and beautiful to look at. From the clean lines and low backs of their Astor Collection dining room chairs and counter stools, to the sleek living room coffee tables and consoles in their best-selling Cooper Collection, Charleston Forge brings a high-end elegance to any room in your home. Their Collins Canopy Bed is both distinctively modern and romantic at the same time, while the simple and confident design of their desks, executive chairs, and exquisite credenzas adds a sense of empowering productivity to any office space.

The Personal (And Highly Customizable) Touch

Art and Susan founded Charleston Forge on a dedication to creativity, and a personal touch. Today their ethos continues to inspire a sense of appreciation in their customers for the level of customization they offer with their pieces. In addition to working with individual designers looking to realize their own original ideas, Charleston Forge offers their clients a wide range of custom wood finishing options like Maple, Walnut, or Ash that can be naturally or hand-planed distressed. They also have a variety of standard and premium metal finishes that only use powder coat paint, which provides more accurate and comprehensive coverage, while also being more resistant to chips and fading. Powder coat paint also happens to be more sustainable for the environment as well, since it doesn’t require any chemical solvents! With so many ways to personalize your unique Charleston Forge furniture purchase, from type and color of leather or fabric upholstery, to gorgeous glass top styles like pale blue fusion glass, cast, riverside, or facet glass options, and even specialty glass for your backsplash, countertop, or sink projects, this is one workshop partner with whom the possibilities are endless.

Committed to Sustainability

Urban Natural is proud to partner with Charleston Forge, not only for their exceptional handcrafted furniture, but also for their steady dedication to more sustainable and ethically-sourced processes. Rooted in Boone, North Carolina, their love for the Blue Ridge Mountains runs deep, and so they make efforts to reduce their environmental impact by primarily using wood from USDA-certified, Appalachian forests that grow 2.9 trees for every one harvested. They also incorporate recycled steel in their products, further recycle any leftover scrap, and use propane instead of natural gas to heat their facilities, which is nearly twice as efficient, and causes less pollution. Their made-by-hand and local-sourced practices enable even more opportunities for sustainability by limiting the amount of cardboard packaging they require, and reducing transportation pollution with shorter travel distances.
