Since 1990, Cisco Home has created comfortable, heirloom-quality furniture using sustainable construction methods. Every piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans using organic materials that are healthy for both you and the planet. Using these natural materials, every piece from Cisco is designed with the utmost respect for the environment, while always keeping comfort in mind.
In 2005, Cisco took their commitment to building a sustainable, healthy home one step further with the introduction of Inside Green technology. Inside Green is a responsible alternative method of creating 100% organic furniture using materials like FSC certified woods, jute, hemp, organic latex, organic cotton, and wool. All materials are free from toxic chemicals that are harmful to you, your family, and the environment.
What does it mean for furniture to be 100% organic?
All furniture built with Inside Green construction is handcrafted using materials that are derived from or found within the bounties of nature. At one point, “green” furniture was associated with being uncomfortable and unattractive. Cisco creates ethically–sourced, 100% natural upholstery that is both aesthetically pleasing and effortlessly comfortable, so you don’t have to compromise on style, comfort, or health. Cisco’s goal is to create furniture that is as healthy as possible using skilled local artisans and ethically sourced materials.
Made with What Matters
What makes it 100% Organic?
Organic cotton is grown without harmful chemicals, leaving the soil, air, and water free from contaminants that cause harm. Organic cotton produces around 46% less CO2 emissions compared to conventional cotton. It also uses far less water to grow since organic cotton growers typically utilize rainwater more than irrigation.
Low VOC Wood Stain
After the right wood is chosen and used to build each piece, it’s essential to apply a responsible and healthy finish. A WOCA natural oil stain is used on all tables, chairs, and wood case goods. WOCA stains are plant-based, sustainable, non-polluting, and contain no artificial pigments or preservatives. Along with being a naturally durable substance, oil-based stains also protect against scratches and indentations better than a standard urethane finish.
EcoWool is sourced from family farms in Oregon and California and is harvested using only the most humane and modern forms of sheep shearing. Farms follow the strictest guidelines of proper grazing methods, healthy veterinary practices and do not use any harmful pesticides in the grazing fields. The wool fiber is naturally fire-retardant with the ability to resist mold and mildew, act as an air purifier, and allows you to regulate the temperature in extreme hot or cold weather.
Cisco uses organic latex to make the cushioning in their furniture naturally durable. They use GOLS-certified organic latex derived from the whipped and baked resin of the Hevea tree. Not to be confused with synthetic latex, organic latex is an antimicrobial, hypoallergenic, renewable, and biodegradable material naturally resistant to mold and dust mites.
Jute & Hemp
Cisco replaces the traditional seating support of 8-way hand-tied or sinuous spring and uses jute & hemp webbing in Inside Green chairs and sofas. This traditional and durable method, combined with the strength of these natural fibers, provides ultimate comfort, quality, and longevity. Jute and hemp are both sustainable and grown organically by Cisco’s suppliers.
FSC Certified Wood
The Forest Stewardship Council ensures that the foresting practices at each site must adhere to a set of requirements on the rights of indigenous people and workers and must follow strict guidelines regarding environmental impact. Cisco is a proud certificate holder (FSC-C002394) and uses FSC woods exclusively across all products. For more information, please visit www.us.fsc.org.
Cisco Home Inside Green: Fill Options
Para Feather seats consist of an organic Dunlop Latex core and is surrounded by a channeled envelope of 90% organic feathers and 10% down. The cover is made of 100% organic cotton down-proof ticking. Keep in mind that this seat option requires regular fluffing and flipping over time to maintain its shape. This option has a firm core, with a soft feather envelope for a more luxurious feel.
Para Pure seats consist of the same organic Dunlop Latex core wrapped in layers of cotton and wool. This is an excellent option for those who are allergic to feathers. This option has a firmer feel, with less ‘sink’ than the Para Feather configuration.
Since 1990, the entire Cisco line has been built with pride in Los Angeles. In 2019, Cisco expanded their capacity and opened a factory in North Carolina. They have continued to use the same age-old techniques that have been passed down between generations. All furniture is handcrafted without computer controlled machines by skilled Makers with years of experience in hand-weaving, webbing, woodworking, glassblowing, and sewing.
Pieces are made to order and customizable in frame construction, cushion filling, upholstery, and every piece in their line can be built with their Inside Green technology. Cisco takes pride in supporting their artisans with consistent work, living wages, and good benefits. The goal is to craft quality, inimitable products that are good for you and the environment.
Cisco has used sustainable materials and ethical building methods to create high-quality furniture for the past 30 years. Whether big or small, every piece of furniture is built with an appreciation for nature, comfort, and your health.
Cisco takes its commitment to sustainability, forest preservation, and eco-friendly practices seriously. All materials are FSC-certified, including wood, water-based stains, and natural fabrics. Lumber is never harvested illegally or in violation of traditional rights, nor is it accepted from genetically modified forests. Cisco is part of the Sustainable Furnishing Council and only partners with Certified Fair Trade vendors that produce ethically sourced goods. They are also Rainforest Alliance Certified and a top scorer of the Wood Furniture Scorecard for three years in a row.
For Cisco, being organic and going “green” isn’t just a trend – it’s a deep commitment to sustainability, style, and comfort. Fabrics are made from the finest natural materials and are free of pesticides and chemicals. Cisco acquires raw materials from only the finest natural and sustainable sources to create each piece.
