The health of our customers and the environment are integral to our company values. We conduct extensive research to source the high-quality furniture you want, made with the safe, organic materials you deserve. All our Workshop Partners must meet at least three of our five values: Ethically Sourced; Handcrafted; Made with Organic Materials; Made Sustainably; Made in the USA.

When you shop ethically sourced furniture, you shop quality pieces made from non-toxic materials sourced using environmentally safe methods. All furniture found at Urban Natural Home is handcrafted by fairly-compensated artisans and tradespeople, free from harmful or exploitative labor practices.

Copeland Furniture sources US hardwood from legal, well-managed forests that are considered Low Risk in all five Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) controlled wood risk categories. They use a durable catalyzed varnish finish that is GREENGUARD Certified for low chemical emissions on all of their products. For all cushions, Copeland uses flexible polyurethane foam that has been approved by CertiPUR-US®

Similarly, American Leather has exclusively used foam, leather, fabric, and Ultrasuede® that are free from fire retardants since 2014. Trusted Workshop Partner Maple Corner Woodworks uses a non-toxic, zero VOC (volatile organic compounds) raw linseed oil-based finish for their wood furniture. American Leather uses soy-based BiOH® Polyols Renew™ foam cushioning that is fully recyclable and available in a wide assortment of firmness and densities.

Ethically sourced furniture also includes the treatment of the Makers who craft these pieces. Loloi Rugs is a proud partner of GoodWeave, a non-profit company that audits factories in India and ensures no child, forced, or bonded labor is used. Our Workshop Partners are industry leaders in their methods of handcrafting furniture and home decor. Urban Natural Home only collaborates with trusted Workshop Partners that practice and encourage the production of ethically sourced pieces.

We believe in built-to-last furniture, meaning it will withstand the day-to-day activities of your busy family, and with the right care, will be passed down to the next generation. From Copeland Furniture and Maple Corner Woodworks, our Vermont Workshops are industry leaders in handcrafting solid-wood furniture. Their philosophy is that every piece that leaves their factory door represents their passion for craft; it is meticulously inspected to make sure it’s just right for you.

Thayer Coggin has a sign in their workshop from when they first started handcrafting furniture in 1953.  It reads, ‘Quality First Production Second.’ Their furniture is proudly handcrafted in High Point, North Carolina, where every upholstered item is custom-made to order for you. Cisco Home furniture is made by skilled craftspeople, not machines. Their Makers have years of experience hand-weaving webbing, carving wood, blowing glass, sewing fabrics, and everything in between. There’s not one print, stitch, or screw that isn’t carefully put together by their hands.

We are proud to say all of our Workshop Partners are handcrafting their furniture for you. Furniture that’s made to last reduces waste, decreases negative environmental impacts, and diminishes the need for fast furniture.

We don’t just label anything “organic.” To be truly organic, furniture must be 100% constructed of certified organic materials. You’ll find three fully organic partners on our website: Cisco Home, Harvest Green, and Naturepedic.

Cisco Home is one of the only Furniture Workshops that handcrafts organic upholstery furniture. Cisco Home’s ‘Inside Green’ Collection is the responsible alternative method of building furniture entirely made from FSC® Certified woods, organic latex, jute, hemp, organic cotton, and wool.

Harvest Green & Naturepedic are our two mattress partners that offer organic, safe sleep options. Naturepedic products are certified by multiple external organizations, including GOTS, GOLS, GREENGUARD, PETA, and MADE SAFE. Similarly, Harvest Green offers vegan mattress options. These mattresses are made with eco-friendly materials that effortlessly promote a Healthy Home.

At Urban Natural, you will always find carefully vetted industry-leading organic furniture and mattress workshops. We are always looking for new partners to provide you with the healthiest options for your home.

When it comes to sustainability, our Workshop Partners don’t just leave it at how they source or make furniture. Many go one step further by being fully sustainable workshops. What does that mean? Luonto, for example, harvests raw materials from Viitala Forest in Finland – a family-ownedWoodworks timber business. All wood waste is converted into pellets then used in wood-fired ovens to heat all three of their factories, local schools, and a local town. They also partner with vendors and suppliers that support all sustainability efforts to reduce waste and repurpose scrap materials.

For Copeland Furniture, sustainability also means producing their own renewable energy. With more than 1,000,000 kWh of solar production and 3,500,000 BTUs of bio-mass heat generation capacity, Copeland generates 95% of their energy onsite. Based on figures provided by the EPA’s eGRID, this means two of their solar installations offset over 1.5 million pounds of CO2 emissions annually.

Copeland uses this energy to create durable, timeless furniture that will last generations. Heirloom-quality furniture diminishes the need for “fast furniture” and decreases negative environmental impacts. Other Copeland sustainability methods include a box-making machine that allows them to make only enough packaging as needed, recycling waste to reduce landfill reliance, and using wood waste to heat their manufacturing building.

As one of the founding members of the Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC), Cisco Home always produces sustainable, ethically-sourced goods with minimal waste. Cisco has been a top scorer of the Wood Furniture Scorecard for 3 years in a row. They only use FSC Certified Wood or water-based stains and natural fabrics – meaning all furniture is made with materials that are good for both you and the environment.

From upcycling scrap products to sourcing materials from environmentally safe and compliant areas, we are proud of our partners’ continuous efforts to push their sustainability and diminish their carbon footprint.

When furniture brands produce outside of the US, their carbon footprint increases due to the time and energy it takes to transport each piece. With over 90% of our Workshop Partners being based in America, we’ve made it our mission to source high-quality products that diminish our carbon footprint and decrease CO2 emissions from air travel.

Urban Natural is proud to carry Workshop Partners that care about their dedicated team of American furniture makers. All local artisans work in ethical environments, are paid a livable wage, and provided with benefits.

One of our trusted Workshop Partners, American Leather, makes high-quality, innovative furniture right here in Dallas, Texas. With a skilled group of craftspeople, and the most technologically advanced furniture manufacturing practices available today, each piece is designed and crafted with expertise. When you buy American Leather furniture, you’re supporting our U.S. communities and experiencing the rich heritage of American-made pieces. From comfortable sofas and sectionals to beds and accent chairs, American Leather pieces are durably made with classic U.S. craftsmanship.
