Meet Verellen: Belgian-Inspired, American-Built Furniture
Urban Natural is excited to introduce you to Verellen, one of the newest additions to our trusted community of workshop partners. Specializing in ethically sourced, handcrafted, USA-made, and sustainable home furniture, they offer a distinctly contemporary approach to traditional Belgian design. When founders Tom and Sabine Verellen moved from Antwerp, Belgium, to the United States over 20 years ago, they paired their knowledge of high-end European textiles with the handmade techniques of American craftsmanship to create Verellen. Today, their furniture manufacturing facility is still USA-based in North Carolina, where they craft bestselling, modern classics with a keen eye for premium quality materials and sustainable processes.
Understated Luxury That’s Built To Last
Verellen furniture sets itself apart with a truly timeless appeal and attention to every expertly crafted detail. The designs for their sofas, accent chairs, dining sets, case goods, lighting, and bedroom sets are distinct and modern, but also rooted in age-old, handcrafted traditions. The designs also prioritize eco-friendly materials and celebrate imperfection's natural beauty through responsibly sourced hard maple, ash, and walnut woods. Using time-honored handcrafted techniques, Verellen ensures that each piece is always heirloom quality and built to last.
Committed to Comfort and Inspirational Design
With luxurious comfort as a driving force, Verellen’s furniture has an elevated confidence that still feels approachable and effortless. As a result, their original Belgian designs offer a harmonious dichotomy of understated sophistication that lends itself beautifully to many different interior aesthetics. Verellen also offers customizable options for nearly every aspect of their furniture, and one size is never meant to fit all. From fabrics and finishes to sizes and configurations, they believe the piece you take home should always be the one that best suits you, your space, and your life.
A Sustainable Approach to Superior Quality
Verellen applies the time and patience needed to craft their pieces exceptionally well, with skilled experience and the highest quality materials. The result is furniture that not only stands the test of time, but is more environmentally friendly for our planet too. Their sustainable values are at the heart of each step in their process, from sourcing the healthiest versions of their materials to using natural finishes that don’t give off the harmful VOCs or formaldehyde gases often found in other furniture. Any glues are FDA approved for food packaging, and their cushioning is all made from ethically harvested down feathers, unbleached ticking, 100% recycled steel springs, and a plant-based poly core, or firmer recycled rebond foam option. Verellen chooses to work with suppliers who practice sustainable processes of their own too; all wood is sourced from responsibly managed, local forests, most of their fabrics are woven from Belgian linen, cotton, virgin wool, or recycled yarns, and their leather goods satisfy international standards and certifications. Even their frames are built with traditional stick-built and hybrid joinery techniques before being covered in unbleached cotton muslin for a truly heirloom quality product that’s also hypoallergenic and less toxic for your home.
If you’re thinking of investing in a new piece of heirloom-quality furniture or home decor, you won’t go wrong with the beautifully handmade and sustainable offerings from Verellen. Designed with your comfort in mind, Verellen intentionally crafts home furnishings to be cherished and remembered for generations.
