Urban Natural Interior Lighting Designs: Cerno Group and Cisco Brothers

At Urban Natural Home, we believe in handcrafted, eco-friendly, American-made products that are both visually appealing and safe for your family.

We have partnered with two unique lighting manufacturers here in the USA – Cisco Brothers and Cerno Group – Both strive to create lighting solutions that use sustainably-sourced materials, innovative design approaches, and quality craftsmanship in every product.

Cerno Group

Cerno Group grew out of a decades-old friendship between three boys in Laguna Beach. Bret Englander, Director of Sales and Marketing; Nick Sheridan, Director of Design; and Dan Wacholder, Director of Engineering and Operations met as children and grew up surrounded by artistic and innovative thinkers who encouraged their passions and creativity.

The Cerno Group continues to be inspired by the attitude of Daniel’s late grandfather, Steve, who often said, “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” This mentality has become the crux of everything Cerno does and stands for, from the design process to the team of highly skilled craftsmen who build their products.

How Cerno Began

In 2009, Bret, Nick, and Dan saw the opportunity for a new approach to interior lighting design. Since the invention of the incandescent light bulb, America’s energy efficiency has relied heavily on products manufactured overseas. Inexpensive, imported light fixtures and lamps often have design and quality flaws that are nearly impossible to fix since the manufacturers are located thousands of miles away.

As the LED light bulb and other energy-efficient solutions became more commonplace, Bret, Nick, and Dan saw the need to design and manufacture responsible, eco-friendly lighting solutions locally. Cerno was born out of that dream.

Cerno Today

Nearly a decade after Cerno began, the company continues to grow, innovating new, energy-efficient lighting solutions made from sustainable materials. Each piece is designed at the Irvine-based facility, then hand-crafted by the Cerno team.

Cerno’s Designs

Nick Sheridan, the co-founder of Cerno and Director of Design, draws from his thoughts, experiences, and travels to create Cerno’s lighting designs. The aesthetic is a combination of modern and contemporary design, seeking minimalism that draws on natural elements for inspiration. Lamps and light fixtures are built at the company’s California-based warehouse with responsibly-harvested wood and high-quality metals.

Cerno’s Mission

Cerno’s mission goes beyond top quality lighting. Their core value is to “Promote Creativity, Innovation, and Craftsmanship.” This belief fosters everything they do, from designing new products to marketing current designs and encouraging the creativity and productivity of their workforce.

Cerno’s philosophy is to respect the materials it uses, the craftsmanship required to create each piece, and the entire team that works to keep Cerno moving forward.

Cerno in the News

Since their inception in 2009, Cerno has quickly become a rising star in the world of interior design lighting. Their products have been featured in publications such as Luxe Interiors + Design, Architectural Record, and LA Home Magazine, among others.

Cisco Brothers

When Cisco Brothers founder and designer Cisco Pinedo’s family arrived in Los Angeles in 1975 from his small town in Mexico, he embraced urban living. However, his rural roots instilled in him a deep respect and appreciation for the earth, the outdoors, and the beauty found in natural elements.

When Cisco began his furniture business out of the back of his home in 1990, he built on that appreciation for nature, combining responsibly-sourced and reclaimed elements into his designs wherever possible.

Today, Cisco Brothers still designs and manufactures all items in their Los Angeles warehouse. Pineda employs local craftsmen and workers to build eco-friendly furniture, accessories, and lighting for distributors all around the world.

Cisco Brothers Hand-Blown Glass Lighting

When Founder and Designer Cisco Pinedo decided to incorporate lighting design into his business, he partnered with California-based glass artist Jesus Garcia to create one-of-a-kind jug lamps, sconces, chandeliers, and pendant light fixtures. (Watch this video of Jesus Garcia performing his craft!) Each piece is handmade in Los Angeles, crafted by a master glass blower.

Metal Lighting

In addition to hand-blown glass lighting solutions, Cisco Brothers also designs and manufactures high-quality metal art lighting and accent lighting. Each piece is produced in California and is designed to give your home a high-end accent you’re sure to love.

Cisco Brothers: Giving Back to the Community

Cisco Pineda believes in giving back to his community. That’s why he co-founded the Making Education the Answer or META organization 15 years ago. Pineda’s background as a Hispanic youth in America helped him develop a deep connection with today’s Latino community, particularly with LA’s Hispanic youth. META offers Southern California children and teens scholarships and job training opportunities to help them stay in school, pursue their passions, and find their purpose.

Cisco Brothers in the News

Cisco’s pieces are featured in several prominent publications including Vanity Fair Magazine and Modern Luxury Interiors.
