Creating a Workspace at Home

Are you working from home? More people are working remotely than ever before because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we know some people are used to not having to work out of an office, for many people it is a whole new way of living. Whether you're a newbie or an old-timer to working from home, it's important to have a workspace that inspires you and helps you stay productive. Even if it's only for a few hours a week, having a comfortable place to get your work done will help you stay organized and reduce stress. If your home office needs a facelift, we have some suggestions that will help you create the ideal space:

1. Pick the right desk

Think about what setup works best for you before you dive into desk designs. Do you need space for a large desktop computer, a tablet, notebooks, and room to spread out, or do you only need space for your laptop? Do you prefer sitting, standing, or a mix of the two as you work? Next, consider what style you want to create in your home office. Are you going for a look that's minimalist and clean, rustic and warm, or mid-century modern? Your desk is the centerpiece of your home office, so you want to pick a piece that embodies the style of the room.

The Invigo Desk from Copeland Furniture smoothly transitions from a traditional desk to a standing desk. You can customize every aspect of this piece, from choosing the shape and size of the desktop to adding powered inserts, monitor arms, and a solid wood modesty panel. This is the perfect desk if you're tired of sitting all day!

West Bro's Serra Desk is both chic and functional. Made of solid Black Walnut, this desk features bold lines and three storage drawers. The elevated surface at the back of the desktop is the perfect place for a lamp, plants, photos, or whatever keeps you motivated! The Serra Desk is available in three finishes to complement your space.

The Strada Media Chest is a convenient workspace, storage, and media console - all in one! The pull-out work surface is a great spot for working on a laptop, and it sits just below two hidden shelves. A knockout back panel allows for easy wire management, and adjustable shelves on the left side give you plenty of room for storage!

2. Find
storage that works for you

Finding the right storage depends on your style and your space. Do you prefer open bookshelves or hidden storage drawers to file away documents and supplies? How much space do you need for storage? How much room do you have? Staying organized is incredibly important for productivity, so you want to choose a piece that will work with your organization style. Check out these storage pieces for some inspiration!

3. Choose a comfortable chair

Find a chair that is comfortable, but still promotes proper posture. You don’t want to get too cozy and end up with a sore neck or back from slouching the day away. While we realize that swivel, wheeled chairs have become the norm, we find that solid wood pieces are often more comfortable and, let's be honest, less distracting. Here are three of our favorite chairs for home offices - notice how each design features a plush upholstered seat and a sturdy, supportive back. Add a splash of color or keep it neutral by choosing custom upholstery for your home office chair.

4. Make sure you have enough light

Having your desk next to a window is fantastic, but when you need to make sure you have enough light when you're working late. Adding a desk or pendant light to your workspace can help increase productivity, especially if the room you are working in doesn’t get enough natural light. Pendant lights are a great addition to a modern workspace because they add both function and style without making the surface of the desk too busy. A sleek tale lamp also gives off a contemporary and clean look.
