Mix and match your chairs. If you can find the right chairs to complement each other, or if you’re going for a boho-chic look, each chair can be totally unique. If you are looking for a cleaner design, we recommend choosing a set of 4 and a set of 2 matching styles (for a 6 chair table) or two sets of two matching styles (for a 4 chair table). Having an armchair, or even an upholstered wingback chair, at the head of the table with side chairs along the longer sides of the table is a timeless look. These upholstered side chairs from West Bros have a simple design that will go well with almost any dining room style.
Create multiple dining areas in your home. What’s stopping you from making your kitchen into another space where friends and family can come together over a meal or drinks? Adding a dining area to your kitchen allows you to create a whole new dining design! Plus, having seating space in your kitchen lets you entertain while you prepare a meal. The Axis Bar Stools pictured here have a fairly small footprint, so they won't take up too much room in your kitchen.
Showcase natural wood pieces. Modern kitchens can be filled with stainless steel and cooler tones. Add warmth to a cool, contemporary design by creating a dining space that highlights the beautiful tones of natural wood. If you think solid wood furniture will look out of place in your dining space, you can always choose pieces with a solid color base and natural wood details, like in the Modern Farmhouse Collection by Copeland.
Create an intimate setting with a round dining table. Round tables make it easier for everyone at the table to talk face to face with one another. If you love the look of a round table, we recommend keeping it small. You can lose the intimate feeling and the ability to easily talk to someone sitting across from you if you choose too big of a table. If you regularly host large groups, opting for a long rectangular table may be your best bet.
Don’t be afraid of a full dining set. We admit that sometimes dining sets can make a room look a little too formal, but by decorating the rest of the room more casually you can maintain a modern and welcoming dining space. Adding a modern lighting fixture, a large piece of art, or a vibrant area rug can add style and variety to the room without having to mix and match dining pieces. Check out our selection of dining collections from Copeland for some inspiration!
Go for a bold lighting fixture. Whether you choose a rectangular table or a round table, picking an eye-catching lighting fixture will draw the eye upwards and create a beautiful focal point in the room. Linear pendants are a wonderful option for rectangular tables, and a modern chandelier works beautifully with a round table. We love the look of these mismatched Cisco Brothers pendants over a long rectangular table!
Choose a bench instead of dining chairs. Adding a bench to your dining room can make the space feel more welcoming and casual. Benches also add more space for people to sit around the table. Choose an upholstered bench for a luxurious look, or go with a solid wood bench for a more straightforward design. Click here to see our entire selection of Dining Benches.
Add a mirror to enhance natural light. No one wants their dining room to be a dark and dreary space. Keep your dining area bright and welcoming by letting in as much natural light as possible. Add a mirror to make the room look brighter and opt for sheer curtains (or no curtains at all) if you have windows closeby. This Jensen Mirror from West Bros is a great option for brightening up any dining space because of its simple, minimalist design.
Find the right storage for your space. Choose a functional storage piece that complements the rest of your dining room. Although it may only be used to store away rarely-used silverware and china, a buffet or sideboard can complete the look of a dining room. We love this new Iso Buffet from Copeland Funiture. Its clean, yet practical design gives you plenty of storage room in two large drawers and hidden shelves.
